Nov, 10 2008 - Spending Smart in Uncertain Times

When the economy looks less than certain, the gut instinct of many business owners is to immediately halt all capital expenditures. This instinct is particularly strong in the paintless dent removal industry. While a closer scrutiny of expenses in your PDR business is smart, what's even smarter is learning how to recognize which things (more advertising, PDR software, new tools) will have an immediate positive effect on your paintless dent repair business.

Oct, 15 2008 - Dealership Software: Separating the Facts from the Fads

The automotive business is changing for both new car dealers and used car dealers alike. Dealership Service Departments

A Better Way to Service Your Customers

Offering reconditioning services to vehicle owners who bring their cars in for servicing is convenient for your customers, and provides additional revenue to the dealership.

Unfortunately, as the service manager you often have to deal with the downside of working with the third-party reconditioning vendors:

  • Handwritten estimates scrawled on slips of paper, reflecting poorly on the dealership reputation when presented to your customers;
  • Errors in prices quoted by individual workers;
  • Mistakes in writing down VIN numbers or license plates, leading to confusion in work performed and in billing;
  • Mounds of paperwork on work estimated and performed, and in data entry of handwritten information into your accounting system;
  • Absence of a database of quoted reconditioning work that was not selected by the customer, making it impossible to follow up with them for future performance of the suggested work;
  • No reports or online data showing the close rate of offered reconditioning services, and on the effectiveness of different sales personnel.

Now, there is a better system that reconditioning vendors can use while working at your dealership, replacing the current pen-and-clipboard approach.

AMT’s Recon Pro was developed for purchase by automobile reconditioning companies working within dealership service departments.

The Recon Pro system uses mobile devices such as cell phones running Microsoft Windows Mobile, bar code scanners, handheld computers, and Web-based software. The result is that the entire reconditioning business process, from initial inspection through final payment, is recorded in a central computer system accessible to both the reconditioning vendor and the dealership. All customer paperwork is available instantly in printer form.

Billing third-party reconditioning work is often a hassle for the dealership; inaccuracies in estimates and errors in recording VIN numbers make a poor impression with your customers, and hinder accounting operations. Scanners attached to the handheld device quickly and accurately record the VIN number of every vehicle. Recon Pro integrates with QuickBooks and other accounting software, avoiding manual entry of data that has been collected electronically.

Recon Pro also provides an “executive dashboard” of business information. It can be viewed from any PC with internet access by both the reconditioning vendors and also by authorized dealership personnel. Easy-to-read customized charts and reports summarize critical business data, including summary and detailed information on estimates, work orders, revenue, and sales performance by individuals.
